Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister [Gregory Maguire]
This wasn't quite what I was expecting. I don't know the original story, only the Disney version and that often doesn't count for much since fairy tales are often dark, too dark for a children's story.
I was expecting this to be something along the lines of Wicked, the story of their lives pre-the story, which the Disney version starts with the death of Cinderella's father.
