Twilight [Stephenie Meyer]
I think I'm one of the few females in my age group who can say that they didn't enjoy this book. Part of it might have been because I was reading it for my supernatural folklore class, so I could do a comparison between this book and Dracula I knew that I would either love or hate this book. I hated it. I find it very said that so many people (including my own mother) have gotten so caught up in the hype. Its a romance that just happens to have a vampire in it. There are hundreds, even thousands of other, better written books with vampires and romance that have a good plot. All this, as one review said, is Edward trying to get Bella to leave him alone, because he's "dangerous". If he'd really wanted her to go way, he would have hurt her!! HE didn't because that would mess with the idea of the romantic vampire, which didn't even become an idea until about Anne Rice's time (I think it started with her). The vampires in legend are the walking dead. Don't misunderstand me, I do like vampire/paranormal romance just fine and sometimes its the only thing that I read. But it always makes me so mad when the author doesn't even mention that vampires are not just people with fangs!! I think I get that from the Anita Blake series (by Laurell K. Hamilton), and in the end, she falls in love with a vampire too. at least most authors mention this or even use it to advance the plot. And really, I need to stop, before this really becomes a rant
