The Dresden Files Collection 1-6 [Jim Butcher]

The Dresden Files Collection 1-6 - Jim Butcher

Storm Front - 3.5 stars It took me a little while to get into this one. It was good, but the first book is always world building and drama. This one seemed more drama than world building, so I know very little about this world right now. The main char being a male is a little confusing too, since I normally either read female char or PNR which has male and female narrators. I really liked Harry talking to himself, though!

Fool Moon - 4 stars This one was non-stop action. I felt kind of lost at some points, since so much was going on at once. These books are all mysteries, since Dresden works with the cops. Most of the time, I can guess who did it, but I don't even try with these books! I know I'd guess wrong, so what's the point? They kind of remind me of the early Anita Blake books, since he works with the cops like Anita does. The magic in this world reminds me more of The Hollows books by Kim Harrison, with the circles and potions (he calls it alchemy, and Rachel calls it Earth Magic). Harry still talks to himself! I think I'll take a break after reading these, before starting the next 6 books. Too many at once might annoy me!

Grave Peril - 4 stars So much happened in this book. This whole series has been non-stop action. There's still world building going on, since you keep learning more about the world. This is the first book Micheal has been in. He's a Knight of the Sword. that's a new one for me, I think there are some books that have the same general idea, but I've not read them. You'd think Harry would know better than to make a deal with a fae again! the same one too! Susan fixed it, though. And messed up herself in the process. Harry kind of fixed that, but I think they're going to drift apart. I never really understood them together, so I'm not really sad about that. I liked Micheal, but I didn't really like his wife that much. She was really rude to Harry.

Summer Knight - 4 stars This book was all about the fae. Once again, I wasn't really sure who had done what until Dresden pointed it out. And then it made perfect sense. I would have never figured it out on my own, but it made sense. Susan wasn't in this book at all, which makes sense given what happened last book. I'm sure she'll be back sometime, but I actually missed her!

Death Masks - 4.5 stars - This is my favorite book of this series so far. Susan's back in this book, and I like her a lot more now than I did before. She has changed, although Harry's not sure if she's really changed or if he's just seeing a different side of her now. The plot was fast paced, as is standard for this series. I'm a little confused over the title, since I'm not sure why this book is called Death Masks. This series has books with titles that are related to the content of the book. Maybe I just missed it somewhere, but the reasons for the book title are often clear within the book (Fool Moon with the werewolves, for example). I think this one is my favorite book because it has nothing to do with politics, which I hate, especially supernatural politics. Harry almost dies, but that's nothing new. That happens every book, at least once.

Blood Rites - 4.5 stars - This book seems like a game changer to me. We learn a lot about Harry's mother, although we still know very little about her overall. I'm looking forward to getting more puzzle pieces about his mother's life.

I loved the interactions between Murphy and Harry. It was pointed out by Harry's other self in his mind and we can really see the possibility in these two as a couple. I'm not sure I want it to happen, but I think it would be interesting. I love Murphy, but I'm not sure Harry could handle her. We also learn more about Murphy and her family in this, since there is a brief scene that's a Murphy family reunion and some interaction between Murphy, her mother and her younger sister. I didn't really like the Mom and the younger sister is nothing like Murphy.
