The Third Chimpanzee: The Evolution and Future of the Human Animal [Jared Diamond]

The Third Chimpanzee: The Evolution & Future of the Human Animal - Jared Diamond

I was a little worried about this book after seeing the Human Family tree in "The Great Leap Forward". Something about it seemed wrong to me, so I asked my roommate about it. My roommate is a archeologist and took a whole class about human evolution. According to her, the Cro-Magon are related to Neanderthals, not us (directly, at least). He also left out several other branches. Not really a big deal in the long run, but it makes me wonder what else in the book is wrong. I do give him some credit, this book was written in 1993, some things that he got wrong weren't known then. Homo sapiens did interbreed with Neanderthals, despite what he says about such being unlikely.

This book has little post-it flags all over the pages, of things that I found interesting in the book. I think I should have taken notes instead. Oh well.
